The long-awaited dungeon crawler from Capybara games, Below finally has locked in its launch date. In an official press release, the developers announced that the game will be hitting PC and will be console exclusive to the Xbox One on December 14.
Below was first announced way back in 2013, but has had its release date delayed several times. Despite earning accolades every time Capy showed off what it had produced so far, the company eventually decided it would be best to stop giving updates on release dates until it had a final decision.
Until this summer, the last time anyone heard about Below was back in 2016 when Capybara announced it would be postponed indefinitely. The game later reemerged at E3 when the company’s head, Nathan Vella, said it would indeed be launching in 2018.
In order to celebrate the hard release date, the company also released a brand new trailer for Below. In the footage, it gives viewers a better feel for what they can expect in regards to gameplay.
The question now has to be whether or not Below can possibly live up to the hype that’s surrounded it since it was first announced in 2013. For those nervous about the project falling short of expectations, it’s important to note that Capybara has managed to put out high-quality games like Super Time Force and Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP.
While neither of those titles came close to approaching the anticipation levels of Below, both are generally considered to be high-quality games that put an original spin on both the look and feel of well-tread genres. Success for the impending release still isn’t guaranteed, but Capybara has a track record that should alleviate some concerns of quality ahead of the official release of its newest project.
Below is set to release on December 14, 2018, for PC and Xbox One.
