Not too long ago, a Persona Q2: New Cinema TV spot appeared in Japan, showing the forthcoming game’s launch date in the Eastern country, as well as a stylish look as to what fans should expect from the title. Now, the publisher and developer Atlus has decided to reveal a brand new trailer for the project, as well as several fresh screenshots highlighting moments from the Nintendo 3DS release.
According to Atlus, Persona Q2: New Cinema will have the game’s characters “trapped in the world of movies”, with the Phantom Thieves encountering others who have powers that operate just the same as theirs do. What’s more is that players will be able to form a party from a total of 28 Persona characters, including some from Persona 3, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4, and Persona 5. As explained by the publisher and developer each movie explored by a player’s party is a dungeon that contains a labyrinth “with a different theme, and each one is a unique creation. No dungeon is straightforward.”
For those who may be unfamiliar with the previous Persona Q, the game can be categorized as a dungeon-crawler, with a time-warp having drawn in cast members from throughout the entire series, and recasting them in a chibi art style instead of the main games’ anime look and feel. While this might sound bizarre to some, many Persona fans would argue that it isn’t as strange as the franchise’s Dancing All Night titles.
All things considered, it will be interesting to see if Atlus eventually decides to bring Persona Q2: New Cinema stateside, for even though the series isn’t particularly well known in the West, with Persona 5 having fared relatively well upon its debut in the US, there’s a chance the upcoming 3DS title could wind up making a splash, too. Then again, we will have to simply wait and see if Persona Q2: New Cinema is successful in Japan first before it gets a worldwide release.
Persona Q2: New Cinema will release on November 29, 2018 for the 3DS in Japan.
