During a Nintendo Direct presentation earlier this year, it was announced that the cult classic DS action RPG The World Ends With You was coming to the Switch as The World Ends With You: Final Remix. And thanks to a new teaser trailer, we now know exactly when fans can expect the enhanced port of the game.
As revealed in the trailer, The World Ends With You: Final Remix will launch on October 12, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. This enhanced version of the original game will come with a number of upgrades, including slightly enhanced visuals, a new control scheme, and a brand new scenario that is exclusive to the Switch.

The World Ends With You: Final Remix is being touted as the definitive version of the game, so anyone with interest who missed out on the original may want to consider picking it up. Those who’ve already played through the original game on the DS will have to decide for themselves if the new content is enough to justify buying the game again and investing time in another playthrough.
If sales of The World Ends With You: Final Remix are strong, then it may very well convince Square Enix to move forward with a sequel. Game producer Tetsuya Nomura has expressed interest in a sequel in the past, but for some reason nothing has gotten off the ground. Right now Nomura has his plate full putting the finishing touches on Kingdom Hearts 3 and directing the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, so perhaps work on a proper sequel to The World Ends With You could come once he’s finished with those projects.
So far, Square Enix has had quite a bit of success releasing games on the Nintendo Switch, and it will be interesting to see if The World Ends With You: Final Remix sells as well as Octopath Traveler. We’ll find out later this year.
